Jeanette McLean

Training Manager

Jeanette joined Walker Training 7 years ago as a part-time training coordinator. She quickly identified areas for improvement and growth with strategic proposals to improve services offered both internally and also to local businesses. In 2013 she was promoted to training manager. As Training Manager, she continues to provide innovative solutions to address skill shortages within the company, the industry, and the community, obtaining nationally and internationally recognised accreditations, developing a comprehensive catalogue of soft-skills and communication courses, and breaking down industry stereotypes.

In addition to managing the training requirements and competences for our parent company, Jeanette offers advice and guidance to our supply chain and to our clients and local businesses, ensuring high standards of both mandatory health & safety training and also vocational skills and competences are delivered. She is a member of the Invicta Construction Training Group and works closely with our external awarding bodies to maintain and further develop our accreditations.

Jeanette developed the Walker Construction Mental Health Initiative, providing free, confidential counselling with a licensed counsellor for ALL its employees and their immediate family. The programme was one of the stand-out achievements of 2017.
She also works with a local homelessness charity to provide free training to help their clients back into work and offers discounted and pro gratis training to disadvantaged young people through local authority programmes. Her focus for 2018 is to continue to work with the Job Centre Plus, developing back to work skills packages and work experience placements and building relationships with local schools and continue to develop and administrate the Walker Construction Apprenticeship Programme.
